The UMKC Robotics Team recently attended the IEEE Region 5 Robotics Competition, where they placed 2nd among the 23 teams in attendance.  UMKC entered five robots in the 2015 competition held April 18, 2015.

This is UMKC’s 11th consecutive year to send a team to the competition.  The event was held concurrently with the IEEE Region 5 Business Meeting and Conference at the Intercontinental Hotel in New Orleans, LA.  In 2016, the conference and competition will be held in Kansas City, MO.

UMKC teams held the top two rankings in the ‘Fast Rat’ division through the qualifiers.

The top placing team from UMKC (UMKC 1) consisted of team members Matt Justus, Eric Gonzalez, Ryan Rouse, and Darren Cogan.  A short video of their robot competing in the final qualification round is available online. The final results from the competition are listed below.

Other UMKC students in attendance were Eric Godsil, Katie Graham, Colin MacDonald, Jacob Smith, and Matthew Mohler.

UMKC staff member Debby Dilks has advised the UMKC Robotics Team since it’s inception in 2004, and traveled with the team to New Orleans.  SCE Associate Professor Reza Derakhshani served as the faculty adviser for the senior design teams, UMKC 4 and UMKC 5.

UMKC Robotics is a multi-disciplinary competition team including students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science degree programs.

The senior design teams consist of senior students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program.
